Resumen
Se contrasta la teoría del autocontrol de Gottfredson y Hirschi en
estudiantes adolescentes en Venezuela (n = 2354) analizando la
relación entre conducta desviada y autocontrol, edad, sexo, nivel
socioeconómico, y tamaño del asentamiento, encontrándose
apoyo a la hipótesis “el bajo autocontrol incrementa la
probabilidad de conducta desviada individual y grupal”, excepto
para conductas relacionadas con drogas. Los varones con bajo
autocontrol tienen mayor probabilidad de participar en conductas
desviadas grupal e individual.

Self-control and deviant behavior:
an exploration with Venezuelan data.
Abstract
Gottfredson and Hirschi’s self-control theory is tested with
adolescent Venezuelan students (n = 2354), examining the
relationship between deviant behavior, self-control, age, sex,
socioeconomic status, and size of settlement. The hypothesis
that “low self-control increases the probability of individual and
group deviance” is supported, except for drug-related behaviors.
Males with low self-control show a greater probability of
engaging in individual and group deviant behaviors.
